"The label you give yourself cannot impact external forces that are not motivated by your own psychology or influenced by a third party's pre-existing consciousness of you. We are all presented with reasons to struggle which come from completely external forces; to pretend that one is not struggling is either arrogance or an admission of defeat. To admit that one is struggling is a sign and a source of strength." - Evan A. Baker

Spring Theory
This is me at Disneyland at 9 years old. I got the preadolescent pudge and those teeth are pushed so far forward, I can't close my lips over them. I look back at this photo and think, I am so freakin adorable! But at the time...well, let's just say that ages 10-15 were very hard on me.
Cut to college.
I no longer look like the 9 year old from Disneyland and I'm the only one from my high school who is attending this university. No one who knew that I just got my braces off two months before and I am wearing contact lenses. I lost some baby fat and have an awesome waist-to-hip ratio.
Suddenly, I am pretty. Suddenly, I have lots of boys paying attention to me. After my first college sweetheart dumps me, his friends are still my friends and a lot of them offer to hang out with me way past the "being a good mutual friend" expiration date.
I did not realize this meant that they viewed me as something more than their buddy's ex-girlfriend. I was potential for them. They like-liked me.
Whaaaa!?
Ironically enough, I was on my way to Disneyland when I came up with a theory: At any time in your life, there are at LEAST two people who have a crush on you. At any time! And let me tell you, more oftentimes than not, there are more.
We have days that are awesome, and we have days that are awful. The next time you're having a bad day, just remind yourself that you are a hot piece and incredibly sexy: Two people are crushing on you RIGHT NOW!!!
Adopt this theory. It will definitely put the spring back in your step!

Ha! What perfect timing to read this because my day kinda sucked. Hmmm... don't know who has a crush on me but since there are at least two I'll just say they are the two hottest guys I know. Ok cool I feel better already thanks!!
ReplyDeleteYou should patent that theory. You could be getting residuals on it until well... forever. Your future great grandchildren could be living on those residuals. It's something to think about....
ReplyDeleteNice post! This makes me feel good. I dunno about the real men in my life, but I'm fairly positive that if I walked past Gerard Butler, he'd think I was a hot piece.
ReplyDeleteAnd that puts me in a better mood.
